Find and manage requests
This video explains how to find and manage requests in Workfront. 鈥 It covers four main areas:
- Workfront Home: Users like Mary Smith, a production artist, can see requests assigned to them. 鈥 Joan Harris, who often makes requests, can find completed requests awaiting her approval. 鈥
- Request Area: Users can filter requests to see those they created.鈥 The term 鈥渕y鈥 in the request area refers to issues created by me, the logged-in user. 鈥
- Teams Page: Users can view unassigned team requests and assign themselves or others. 鈥 They can also use the workload balancer to manage team assignments based on current workloads. 鈥
- Custom Reports and Dashboards: Users can create custom reports to track requests, with control over naming, filters, views, and groupings. 鈥 This allows for clear tracking of requests by priority, creator, primary contact, assignee, and status. 鈥

This video is for people who need to find requests they鈥檝e made to check the status or add comments, people who have been assigned to work on requests, and people who manage requests. By managing requests, I mean making sure requests are assigned and that the work is getting done, as well as approving requests when needed. There are four main areas in Workfront where people can go to find requests. The first is Workfront Home. Here we鈥檙e logged in as Mary Smith. Mary is a production artist on the creative team and has frequently assigned requests. In Home, she can see her requests. These are requests where she may be assigned alone or with others. Next, we鈥檒l log in as Joan Harris. Joan often makes requests and is not usually assigned to any. In Home, she can quickly find requests that have been completed and are awaiting her approval. The next area where you can find requests is in the Request area. We鈥檙e still logged in as Joan. There are a lot of requests here, so Joan will want to change her request to Mary. She can change the filter to My Open Request to see only those requests that are not yet completed. When you see the word My in a filter, it means it鈥檚 related to the logged in user. My can mean different things depending on where you are. In Home, My may mean things that are assigned to you, while in the Request area, My means you are the primary contact, which is the person who either created the request or on whose behalf it was created. The Teams page is the next area we鈥檒l look at to find requests. We鈥檙e logged in as Mary again. She may want to go here to see requests assigned to the creative team that have not been assigned to a team member yet. Anything in this list still needs to be assigned. She can assign herself to a request by simply clicking Work on it. Now we鈥檒l log in as Joan. Joan can also see all the unassigned team requests. She can click on the person icon to make an assignment. She can also check the Workload Balancer to see how busy team members are and make assignments accordingly. The last area we鈥檒l talk about is Custom Reports of the Custom Dashboard. These are custom, so you鈥檒l need to create them yourself. But the advantage is that you can choose what you name them and you control the filters, views, and groupings. Here we have Open Requests Assigned to Me and Open Requests Created by Me, so there鈥檚 no ambiguity about what My means. Down here we have a complete list of requests that the creative team is working on, grouped by priority. We can see who created the request. This is the entered by, on whose behalf it was created. This is the primary contact, who it鈥檚 assigned to, and the status. If you want to learn how to create custom reports, click on the link below to open the Create a Task Report tutorial.
