Learn how to create a customer frequency capping rule set to limit the number of communications sent to customers based on communication type.

Hi, I鈥檓 Aaron Forrest, a product manager on the 51黑料不打烊 Journey Optimizer team, here to demo how you can frequency cap certain types of communications. Let鈥檚 jump in. It isn鈥檛 uncommon for a brand to have multiple emails going out in a given day or week. These emails are coming from journeys and campaigns. Some are scheduled communications while others are triggered by real-time events. In this example here, you鈥檒l see that combination and that a customer can be potentially bombarded with up to 8 emails per day. And also to note, some of these emails are very similar in nature, all trying to drive product sales. As a marketer, you鈥檒l want to mitigate the risk of customer fatigue by applying a capping constraint so that your customer doesn鈥檛 get too many sales-like emails on a given day. Let鈥檚 check out how to achieve this use case that warrants the need for frequency capping by type. Within Business Rules, let鈥檚 create a channel rule set where we will specify a maximum number of sales emails we鈥檇 like a customer to see. The rule set is the folder which will contain this frequency capping rule and which we will use to group together our sales emails to adhere to the cap. I鈥檒l name this rule set Sales Emails Cap and be sure to specify that it鈥檚 a channel domain. Then, I鈥檒l add a rule of 1 sales email per day. Hit save and activate both the rule and the rule set. Now, let鈥檚 jump over to our campaign and journey which contain these sales-like messages to apply the constraint. This store-wide deals journey contains this store-wide deals email. I鈥檒l select the action in the canvas and then hit edit content. Here, at the top of the editor, you鈥檒l see the option to add business rule. Let鈥檚 add the rule set we just created. Now, let鈥檚 head on over to our campaign to apply the rule set there as well. I鈥檒l hit edit content and again here at the top, I鈥檒l add the business rule. We can confirm that we鈥檝e successfully applied the business rule as it will be shown here in the properties. We鈥檝e now successfully applied this constraint to two of our sales-like emails and can rest assured that the customer will get a maximum of one of these sales emails per day. In summary, the frequency capping tool supports your more granular and specific capping needs by enabling you to cap by certain types of communications through the creation of these custom rule sets.
